Of Mice and Men

"The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry...."

Parenting 101: Don't try and make plans with a newborn.

Manu and I learned the hard way last night. We had been invited to a black tie wedding at The Plaza, which we were really excited about attending, and thought we could pull of going for a few hours while Manu's mom kept Shaan. I was particularly excited, as I rarely get time out these days, and was thrilled that I was going to be able to fit into a pre-pregnancy dress.

The wedding started at 7, so around 5:30 or so we started getting ready. Right about the time we started getting our clothes on, Shaan geared up. This wasn't too surprising, as 5-10 pm or so is by far his fussiest time of day. So, we went ahead and got Manu's mom to get a picture of us getting ready to leave.

Then, since we STILL don't have a picture of all three of us (baby, Manu, and I) we thought we would get a pic of us with the baby too. As you can see, I don't have a picture of that...

Everything started to fall apart right about then. Shaan has never been "clingy" (I mean, isn't he too young for that, still?) but last night as we were trying to leave he would not settle down for anyone but "momma." I mean, I would get him settled and the minute I tried to pass him off to Manu's mom, he would gear up again. It was so strange. Plus, his "fussy" phase was way worse than it normally is. We just couldn't leave him like that, so we opted to skip the wedding and maybe try and get him settled down in time for the reception.

Well, by 9 pm we realized we weren't going to make the reception. We weren't sure if the reception would have a sit-down dinner or not, but with a black tie event, we figured the chances were pretty good, so we didn't want to be "that couple" popping in mid-way through the dinner. So, we finally got Shaan to sleep and decided we would just go grab a bite to eat in our neighborhood while Manu's mom stayed in with the baby.

Right about the time we got our entrees, Manu's phone rang and it was his mom with a furious Shaan wailing bloody murder in the background. So, we promptly asked for our check and excused ourselves.

Not exactly the night we had in mind...but I guess that's what we get for trying to schedule an evening out with a two month old!

While I'm updating the blog, thought I would share a few recent pics as well....
