One of my high school friends just linked to this on Facebook, and I loved the article so much I decided to blog about it...
First of all, thank goodness none of my "child-less" friends are like the lady who posed the question (or at least I don't think they are!!!)
I have been very blessed in that my sweet "child-less" friends have made every effort to come visit Shaan and me when it's convenient for us (you know who you are...those of you who travelled from Zurich, Switzerland, New Hampshire, and Hoboken to visit us, those of you who visited us on your holidays off from work, those of you who come and visit us in between your classes and also pay emergency babysitting visits, those of you who swing by after work and allow me to come and hang out when the baby is in bed and I also need to catch up on "Lost", those of you who babysat for us before we could ever get a "real" sitter, those of you who came and visited us in the hospital..and still hung around while I nursed, and did I mention you were guys/former co-workers)??? (don't worry, I was fully covered/they didn't even know what was happening!), and those of you who rearrange your schedules to hang out with Manu and me when we are finally able to "lock in" a babysitter here in the City!!!)
Sidebar: Special thank you to Danielle Austin, Beth and Doug York, Stacey O'Brien, Rati Bagai, Sarah Mallin, Kate Sweeney, Kellyn Beltran, Jared Pedowitz and John Mallin, Mike Atieh and Marley Guerrera, and John Mallin (again)!
Anyways, since I don't have the excuse of having horrible friends, I found the article amusing because it reminds me of what it is that I do all day...since most of the time, I reach the end of the day feeling like I have accomplished nothing/gone backwards/wrecked the house, etc.
I will be the first to admit that I was the "child-less" naive person "pre-Shaan" thinking I was going to have all this extra time on my hands if I stayed at home once he got here (I had great ideas of learning Hindi, having an immaculate apartment 24/7, cooking elaborate meals, etc....what a joke!!! I'm lucky to get a shower!!!). I would have probably written the article referenced above myself prior to having Shaan! Haha!
Kudos to all the moms out there!!! :) And kudos to all the great child-less friends who aren't as naive as I was!!! :)
Hi Cammie, I love your prespective on all this. I have to say that when it was just me + Caleb Davis (our 1st baby) that I found my days so much harder. Trust me that this 1st year is such an adjustment and you will start to find that "me" time again. :)
