This fall, Shaan and I made our first trip to the Pumpkin Patch. What a neat experience! We travelled to Burt's Farm in north Georgia and spent several hours browsing through the large selection of pumpkins, taking a hayride, and sampling some tasty treats. Oh, and of course we purchased a few pumpkins as well!
We made it home with a carving pumpkin that looks WAY bigger on our teeny doorstep than it did out in the pumpkin field - ha! Shaan also picked out a gourd and a "baby boo" for fall decorations. I picked out a pie pumpkin to take to his class this week since I am the "mystery reader" (shhh!) on Tuesday.
One of the books I've chosen to read is called "The Pumpkin Patch" by Margaret McNamara:
It's the story of a class who goes on a field trip and one little girl, Katie, picks out a very small pumpkin. The others kids make fun of her because her pumpkin is so small, however, when she gets home, her dad tells her that her pumpkin is a wonderful choice because it is sweet. He proceeds to make a pumpkin pie with the small pumpkin that Katie is able to take to class the next day. Everyone loved her pumpkin after all!
It's a cute book, and I thought I might share it with Shaan's class this week and take them a small "pie pumpkin" from the patch for them to see and touch and keep in their class for a decoration.
Here are a few pics of Shaan and I at the Pumpkin Patch:
If you are looking for some educational resources regarding the Pumpkin Patch to use with your little ones this fall, I've included some ideas (and a few more pics from our trip to the Patch) on the Shepherd My Child blog here:
