Hip Hip Hooray! Shaan mastered reading/spelling his first 50 words this week! I'll admit I've not been so great a focusing on reading with him lately, so I hit the ground running at the start of this year (2013) thinking I need to get back into the swing of using our flashcards, reading more books, etc. After we used our flashcards a few nights ago, I counted how many he was able to read and it was 50 words exactly:

He turned 3 and a 1/2 on Christmas Day, and I've noticed that all of a sudden I can show him words 2-3 times and he picks them up. So, I really want to make 2013 a big year for focusing on reading. I saw on the Teaching Baby to Read blog that there was a challenge to read our children 2013 books in 2013. That seems like a lot, but if you average it per day it only equates to about 6 books a day. I think I'm going to see if we are up for the challenge this year! Am I crazy?
In other family news, I was attacked by a Rottweiler on Tuesday. Thankfully, I am ok and I am so glad Shaan was not with me, but I'm pretty sure I'll have a permanent reminder (i.e. scar) of this one - what do you think? (Note: the first picture is from the day this happened {Tuesday} and the second pic is from today {Saturday})
Luckily, my husband is a very good doctor, so I have been in great hands and cared for tremendously since Tuesday. Thanks, Manu! :)
