I have a group of college girlfriends that try to get together at least annually for a reunion. Fresh out of college, we seemed to meet more frequently, and, more often than not, ended up at the beach. On one of these beach trips, I think we made a prediction about the order in which everyone would get married and I seem to recall that the consensus was that Miss Jamie Moser would pull up the rear. Oddly, enough - we were right - this past Saturday Jamie staked her claim as the last of this group of girlfriends to get hitched! Woohoo!
What a wonderful weekend and wedding celebration it was!
First of all, Jamie looked amazing, handled everything so gracefully, and, as one of my girlfriends put it, she was "elegant, classy, spunky, and sexy all in one - how she pulls it off, I have no idea!" Everything about the wedding celebration was "true to Jamie" form, even down to the bicycle rickshaw that her dad used to drive her into the wedding ceremony!
It was so much fun catching up with everyone this weekend. Now that we're older (the first of this group of girlfriends to get married will be celebrating her 10 year wedding anniversary this summer - wow!) and many of us have children, it's a whole lot harder to get together than it used to be. So, the last two years our reunion has been "annual" only, and only as a result of the previous two weddings (Becca's last spring, Jamie's this past weekend).
What struck me this weekend was how amazingly mature these women are. When we were in college, most of us dealt with minor "college-type" issues, but now we are all in the real world. Throughout this group, the last 10 years have thrown us fertility problems, miscarriages, multiple moves and job/career changes, family sicknesses (including cancer), etc., and I am encouraged by how much these women have trusted God through their trials and given Him glory through their blessings. We are no longer shallow ladies with shallow friendships (not that I ever really thought any of us were "shallow", but by comparison to where we all are now), we are now depth-filled ladies of character who cling to one another, and to God and His mercy through this journey called "life."
I am so blessed and thankful for the last 10 years, and I can't wait to see where the next 10 take us. Thank you, ladies, for sharing this journey with me! I am encouraged and strengthened by each of you, despite how little we all have "face time!" Just knowing you are there and that we can "pick up wherever we left off" means the world!
And congrats again to our "Sweet Baby James!" Hope you are having an awesome and adventure-filled honeymoon in Thailand!
